Posted in light of OWW being pulled by Versus, just like streaming video. I’m not as pretty as Lindy (and who is?) but I won’t let a shortage of advertising revenue or crappy ratings prevent me from bringing you a fresh helping of IndySoup!

IndySoup: 2011 Indy 500 recap
Race Day: 2011 Indy 500!!
For some of us – and probably you if you’re reading this – this day is like Christmas, New Year’s, and Thanksgiving all rolled into one! And a happy Indy 500 race day to all! (here’s some pics I took from turn 3)
1963 winning driver drives the 1911 winning car:
Video of Vintage Winning Cars and Drivers-watch #8 make a crazy pass on the outside!
Just before the National Anthem from Turn 3 @ IMS – a very special anniversary indeed.
B2 Bomber flying over the North Vista catch fence, heading south over IMS:
The Command to Start Engines and Parade Lap with the 1911 Marmon Wasp driven by Parnelli Jones, 2-seater driven by Mario Andretti, Pace car driven by A.J. Foyt and the field of 33 driven by some of the best race drivers in the world!
The first of many double file restarts, lined up 2 wide thru 3…
Slow Helio going around an even slower Simona…her day was just about done, his was long, very long…
…like when his right rear tire fell off going through 3 later on
Will Power lost his left rear in the pits…another Penske driver with a very long day
One of many passes Tomas Scheckter made on the outside on restarts-got Rahal and Carpenter on this one.
Scheckter again on the outside! Pippa Mann and Bertrand Baguette inside
The third of many restarts…yes, that’s Ana Beatriz in front, outside with Dixon and faster cars behind…
Rookie J.R.Hildebrand on lap 200 heading into turn 3…yes, that’s Charlie Kimball just ahead…
and about a second later, J.R. looks good going thru 3 on to victory…
Video of the same turn 3 on the 200th lap…
…and the winner is…Dan Wheldon?
Victory lap for Wheldon and Bryan Herta Autosports – congratulations!
More Indy People – Patrick from TF – post race grin outside North Vista!

Goodnight 16th and Georgetown…we’ll see you again next year!
‘Twas the Night Before Indy
Twas the night before Indy
And all ’round the track
Not an engine was purring
Not even a cat
The race suits were hung
By the helmets with care
In hopes that St. Marmon
Soon would be there
The drivers were resting
All snug in their beds
While visions of milk bottles
Danced in their heads
The Dallaras sat silent
Awaiting command
While green, white and checkered flags
Stood in their stand
When out on the bricks
I heard such a clatter
I headed down pit lane
To see what’s the matter
In Gasoline Alley
I saw such a sight
’twas the old Marmon Wasp
Like a ghost in the night
With it’s little old driver
His hair turning grey
I knew in a moment
It must be St. Ray
Like Dan Gurney Eagles
The other cars came
He whistled and shouted
And called them by name
Now Offy! Now Novi!
Now Hall’s Chaparral!
Lolas and Marches
McLarens and all!
To the top of the grid
Along the pit wall
Drive away! Drive away!
Drive away all!
And then on a microphone
I heard in the night
A golden-voiced angel
Who brings such delight
The Ghost of Tom Carnegie
With a smile on his face:
“500 miles to all
And to all a good race!”

Fast Friday, May 20 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway: After driving all through the night and day before, I finally got to sit in the passenger seat – this time, with Indy Lights driver Anders Krohn and not on Hwy 40 or Rt. 66 – but around Indy!
